Generative AI at UC

Gen-AI tools are everywhere and it's important for students, staff and the University to keep privacy front of mind when using these tools so we use them wisely and ethically. Read our position on AI at UC.
HOW TO APPLY
Generative Artificial Intelligence, or Gen-AI, is technology that generates text, images, data, and videos in response to specific prompts from the user. Gen-AI operates through a combination of algorithms and vast amounts of data to create content that meets the user鈥檚 request.鈥
A prompt is a descriptive phrase or sentence that guides the Gen-AI to create specific content, such as "Summarize this article." While prompts direct the AI's output, it's important to understand that using these tools may carry privacy risks, depending on how the AI processes and stores your data.

Gen-AI tools are becoming increasingly integrated into many online services and platforms. For instance, search functions on some social media platforms now include AI-enhanced capabilities, and virtual assistants like Siri or Alexa use Gen-AI to respond to user queries.鈥
It's important for both you and the University to keep privacy in mind when using these tools to create content or analyze data. Be aware of the limitations and biases of the technology. Let's use all AI tools wisely and ethically.
