Te Reo M膩ori

Introduction

Learning te reo M膩ori enables us to explore our identity as New聽Zealanders and pass on our passion to others and future generations.

Te Reo M膩ori is a highly recommended study option for those who might work with Indigenous people or industries, or in education, public, or communications roles that require bicultural and multicultural聽competency.

What will my study involve?

  • Develop your reo skills and learn about language revitalisation, bilingual/immersion education, reo history, and contemporary language.
  • Take part in w膩nanga reo (language immersion field trips) to local marae.
  • Be a part of our wh膩nau at Aotahi: School of M膩ori and Indigenous Studies with support and guidance in and out of聽classes.
  • Complete a minor in Te Reo M膩ori within many bachelor鈥檚 degrees to combine language skills with your other study聽interests.

Courses

Te Reo M膩ori major

For the major in the Bachelor of Arts, complete the following courses:

100-level

If you have little or no previous background in te reo M膩ori, it is also strongly advised to take .

200-level

and are recommended.

300-level

You are also encouraged to take courses in M膩ori and Indigenous Studies. Up to 45 points can be included in the major.

Students completing a double major in Te Reo M膩ori and M膩ori and Indigenous Studies in the Bachelor of Arts must complete a total of 270 unique points in the two course areas.

Te Reo M膩ori minor

For the minor in the Bachelor of Arts, Commerce, Digital Screen, Health Sciences, Product Design, Psychological Science, Science, Social and Environmental Sustainability, Sport, or Youth and Community Leadership, complete the following courses:
